The applied edition of Vastu Shastra (वास्तु शास्त्र) — extending the conceptual foundation in vastu-deep with 8 ashta-dik-pala lords, the 9x9 Vastu Purusha Mandala (81 padas), 20 detailed room-placement rules, 30 common defects with traditional remedies, and Vastu-shanti corrective rituals.
Each cardinal + intercardinal direction is governed by a dik-pala (दिक्पाल — "direction-guardian"). Building activities in each quadrant must honour the ruling lord's nature.

Best for — Master bedroom, heavy almirah, boss-cabin, safe-vault foundation.
Avoid — Main entrance, toilet, kitchen, septic, water-tank.
West (Paschima) · पश्चिम (Paścima)
Lord: VarunaवरुणElement: Water (jala)
Governs — Profit from existing efforts, completion, social respect.

Northeast (Ishanya) · ईशान्य (Īśānya)
Lord: Ishana (Shiva)ईशानElement: Aakasha + jala — most sacred
Governs — Spiritual energy, wisdom, prosperity, prana, divine grace.
Best for — Pooja room, water-storage, tulsi, well/borewell, open courtyard.
Avoid — Toilet (worst defect), kitchen, master bedroom, heavy storage, staircase.
What — A 9x9 grid (81 padas) on which the cosmic Vastu-Purusha lies face-down, pinned by the 45 devatas. Each pada is governed by a specific devata. Building on this grid aligns the dwelling with cosmic intelligence.
Origin — Vastu-Purusha was a demon born from Shiva-Andhakasura battle-sweat. He grew uncontrollably + threatened all three worlds. The 45 devatas pinned him face-down — head to NE, feet to SW, arms outstretched east-west, knees + elbows folded. Brahma blessed: anyone who builds on his back honouring the 45 devatas with proper Vastu rules will receive prosperity; whoever violates him invites his rage (vastu-dosha).
Orientation — Head — Northeast (Ishanya). Feet — Southwest (Nairutya). Right hand — Northwest. Left hand — Southeast. Heart + navel — Center (Brahmasthan).
№ 1Main entrance (Mukhya-Dwara) · मुख्य द्वार
Ideal direction — North, East, or Northeast (best). West acceptable. South + Southwest avoid.
Why — East entry catches morning sun (Indra); North entry attracts Kubera-wealth; NE entry receives Ishana-grace.
Keep — Auspicious threshold (toran), Ganesha + Lakshmi above door, doormat with Om/Swastika, brass nameplate, daily threshold rangoli or kumkum-tilak.
Avoid — Shoes pile-up inside, broken/squeaky door, peeling paint, dustbin near entry, dark colours (black/dark-grey).
Defect (if mis-placed) — Entry in SW or directly facing toilet/kitchen — instability + repeated financial loss.
№ 2Pooja room (Deva-Griha) · देवगृह
Ideal direction — Northeast (Ishanya) ONLY. Worshipper faces East or North.
Why — Ishana is Shiva's own quadrant — most sattvic. Morning prana flows from NE.
Keep — Idols not taller than 9 inches (home worship), feet on a small pedestal, deepa to the SE corner of altar, fresh flowers, no photo of deceased relatives mixed in.
Avoid — Idols facing each other, broken/cracked idols, pooja room under staircase, attached to toilet, in bedroom.
Format: Problem → Effect → Remedy. Traditional remedies — apply as supplementary to structural fixes, not in place of them.
Effect — Wealth blockage, family disputes, female-illness, no childbirth.
Remedy — Best: seal + relocate toilet. If not possible: place a sea-salt bowl + camphor monthly; install a pyramid yantra above the ceiling of that toilet; never use it during pooja days; close door always.
№ 2NE corner is cut / missing (vastu-dosha)
Effect — Chronic illness, loss of mental peace, no progeny, no spiritual progress.
Remedy — Install a brass kalasha with water + tulsi at the missing-corner spot. Place a golden-brass Sri-yantra pyramid. Perform an annual Vastu-shanti homa. If owned, consider construction-extension to fill the corner.
№ 3SW corner has main entry
Effect — Instability, financial loss, accidents, family-leader stress.
Remedy — Keep this door always closed (use as secondary). Install a Vastu-yantra above the door. Use a North/East door as the daily-use entry. Daily kumkum-tilak on the SW threshold.
Vastu-Shanti Homa · वास्तुशान्ति होम
What — The classical fire-ritual for pacifying Vastu-Purusha and the dwelling-devatas. Invokes the 9 grahas + 45 vastu-devatas + 5 dik-palas + Brahma.
Procedure — Setup: 1 kalasha (water + mango leaves + coconut) at NE. Yajna-kund at SE of homa-mandapa. Invocation of Ganesha, then Brahma + Vastu-Purusha, then 9 grahas (one ahuti each), then 45 devatas (collective ahuti), then 8 dik-palas. 108 final ahutis of til + ghee + sugar + samidha. Purna-ahuti with coconut. Conclude with kumkum-tilak on every wall + door-frame + brahmasthan.
When — (1) Before occupying a new home (griha-pravesha). (2) After major renovation. (3) Annually if known vastu-doshas exist. (4) After repeated misfortunes traced to the dwelling.
Vastu-Purusha Pacification (daily 21-day) · वास्तुपुरुष शान्ति
What — A daily simple ritual for pacifying any vastu-purusha agitation — useful as a follow-up after a dosha is discovered or repaired.
Procedure — Each morning for 21 consecutive days: (1) Light a diya at NE. (2) Sprinkle gangajal on all room thresholds. (3) Place a small offering of black-sesame + ghee + jaggery at the brahmasthan. (4) Chant 'Om Vastoshpataye Namah' 108 times. (5) Apply kumkum tilak at the four corners of the house at floor-level.
When — After any vastu-correction work. Also during Adhika-maasa or Bhadrapada (avoid heavy ritual in Pitru-paksha).
Pyramid Yantra Placement · पिरमिड यन्त्र
Brass / copper / crystal Vastu-pyramids are placed at specific vastu-doshic spots (above NE-toilet ceiling, at brahmasthan, at missing-corners) to concentrate corrective energy.
Consult when —
- Building from scratch — Vastu integrated into architectural design saves enormous later remediation cost.
- Major renovation involving demolition of walls / addition of floors / change of entry.
- After repeated misfortunes that don't trace to other causes — chronic illness in one quadrant, financial loss only after moving in, persistent disputes despite no obvious cause.
- Before purchasing land — to assess plot-shape, road-direction, slope.
- When buying / renting a flat — to assess direction of main entry, kitchen, master bedroom.
Whom to consult — (1) Licensed architect with Vastu certification. (2) Sthapati (traditional Vastu-shilpi from an established lineage). (3) Pandit specialised in Vastu-shanti for the ritual aspect. Always verify credentials + ask for references — Vastu has many self-styled experts.
Red flags — Avoid: anyone demanding huge fees for 'urgent' remediation, anyone selling expensive crystals as the sole remedy, anyone refusing to give written documentation, anyone who creates fear without offering proportionate remedies.
