Vimshottari Dasha - the 120-year cycle

Each life is mapped to a 120-year cycle. The sequence runs Ketu → Venus → Sun → Moon → Mars → Rahu → Jupiter → Saturn → Mercury. Start point = the graha lord of your birth-nakshatra. Within each mahadasha, each sub-period (antardasha) is the proportional slice of the same nine in the same order.

The 5 limbs of the Panchang

Tithi · तिथि

Lunar day (1-30). The angle between Sun and Moon, divided into 30 parts. New moon = Amavasya (15 + 15). Full moon = Purnima.

Nakshatra · नक्षत्र

Lunar mansion (1-27). Where the Moon sits among the 27 stars. Birth-nakshatra fixes the dasha-sequence + lifelong identity.

Yoga · योग

Sum of Sun+Moon longitudes divided into 27 parts. Each yoga has its own auspiciousness - e.g. Vyatipata (inauspicious), Siddhi (highly auspicious), Vaidhriti (avoid).

Karana · करण

Half-tithi (60 total in a month). 11 names cycle. The four sthira (fixed) karanas - Shakuni, Chatushpada, Naga, Kimstughna - surround Amavasya and govern pitri-rituals.

Vara · वार

Weekday - 7 days each governed by a graha (Sun=Sunday, Moon=Monday, Mars=Tuesday, etc.). Aligned with the 7 visible grahas in classical order.

Major Doshas & Remedies

Kuja Dosha (Manglik) · कुज दोष (मांगलिक)

Cause - Mars (Mangala) in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12, counted from the Lagna, the Moon or Venus. The 2nd-house condition is a regional (South Indian) extension of the core set, not part of it.

Effects - A marriage-compatibility consideration rather than a verdict on a person. The tradition reads this Mars placement as assertiveness entering the houses of self, home and partnership, asking for a partner and a household that can meet it.

Traditional practice - Classical practice weighs the placement together with its recognised cancellations — dignity of Mars (own sign or exaltation), Jupiter's aspect or conjunction, and matching with a similarly placed partner — rather than treating the placement alone as final. Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesdays is the widely followed devotional practice; Mangala or Navagraha shanti at a temple where family tradition asks for it.

Established practice, outside BPHS core - This is not a prediction about any marriage, and it says nothing about how long anyone will live. Which cancellation prevails is an open question our engine does not decide on its own.

Kala Sarpa (observation) · काल सर्प

Cause - All seven classical grahas (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) falling within one half of the Rahu–Ketu axis, measured on exact longitudes.

Effects - A MODERN observation, not a classical dosha — it does not appear in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and many traditional jyotishis do not use it at all. Where it is read, it is read as concentration: the chart's energies channelled through one hemisphere, giving a life that advances in focused pushes.

Traditional practice - Rahu and Ketu beeja mantras; Maha Mrityunjaya japa is the widely followed practice. Rahu-Ketu shanti or sarpa-shanti seva where family tradition asks for it.

Modern observation, contested standing - It is not a curse and it predicts no misfortune. No verified repetition count or specific kshetra is prescribed here — practise at a comfortable devotional pace.

Sade Sati · साढे साती

Cause - Saturn (Shani) transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd houses from the natal Moon — a roughly 7.5-year cycle in three phases.

Effects - A transit condition rather than a natal one, traditionally read as a period of slower progress, heavier responsibility and consolidation. It is widely also described as a period of maturing and clearing.

Traditional practice - Hanuman Chalisa and Shani Stotram on Saturdays. Danam of black sesame, mustard oil or iron. Feeding crows and dogs. Any gemstone is a matter for qualified consultation, never a self-prescribed step.

In the classical corpus - Sade Sati happens to everyone, roughly three times in a long life. It is not a diagnosis and it does not forecast specific events.

Pitru Dosha · पितृ दोष

Cause - Several formulations circulate and they disagree with one another. SevaCart has no ratified rule for detecting this, so our Kundli does not assess it and this page does not state a formation.

Effects - Not assessed. Because there is no verified method, we do not describe effects — doing so would imply a finding we are not in a position to make.

Traditional practice - Pitru remembrance is a living tradition independent of any chart reading: tarpana during Pitru Paksha, shraddha on the ancestral tithi, and anna-dana are observed by families as customary practice, not as the correction of a diagnosis.

No verified method at SevaCart - This says nothing about your ancestors or your family. It is a statement about what SevaCart has verified. Nobody should be told they need an expensive ritual on the strength of a word alone.

Reading your own chart -This page is general education, not a reading of anyone's chart. To see what your own Kundli actually shows — including which of the above are assessed, which are not, and why — generate it from your birth details.
