How SevaCart works

A seva offered from a distance is still a seva. SevaCart connects you to KYC-verified temples, mutts, gaushalas, gurukulas and welfare institutions, carries your sankalpa to the priest who performs it, and brings back proof that it happened.

For devotees, in four steps

  1. Step 1. Choose a seva or a cause

Browse by deity, temple, occasion or cause. Every listing names the institution performing it, what is included, and the window in which you can cancel.

  2. Step 2. Record your sankalpa

Sankalpa is the statement of intent read out during the ritual. Add the names, gotra (lineage) and nakshatra (birth star) that the priest should recite.

  3. Step 3. Offer

Pay by UPI, card or netbanking through our RBI-authorised payment partner. You get an order reference immediately and a confirmation by email.

  4. Step 4. Receive proof

The institution performs the seva and uploads photographic proof. You are notified, and the completed offering is written to the public ledger.

Where the money goes

  • The seva amount belongs to the institution. It is never SevaCart revenue.
  • SevaCart charges one platform fee, published in full on the pricing page and shown as its own line before you pay.
  • The payment-gateway charge is absorbed by SevaCart. No gateway line is ever added to your bill.
  • Verified causes carry no SevaCart platform fee today.
  • Dakshina is optional and goes 100% to the officiating priest.
  • Money reaches the institution’s verified bank account once the payment gateway releases the funds.

The exact fee, GST treatment and refund windows are on the pricing page, and every completed offering is on the public ledger.

For institutions

Temples, mutts, gaushalas, gurukulas, NGOs and welfare trusts list their own sevas and causes, at their own prices, and receive the money in their own verified bank account. Registration is one account per person; you can hold several institutions under it.

Temples

Put your sevas within reach of devotees who cannot travel, without handing your income to an intermediary.

Mutts

A mutt (matha, monastic seat) carries sevas, annadana and teaching together. All three can be offered and supported through one verified listing.

Gaushalas

Fodder, veterinary care and shelter are recurring costs. Listing them as specific, named needs is what makes people support them.

Gurukulas

A gurukul (traditional residential school) or Veda pathashala runs on food, teaching and upkeep. Each of those can be listed as a cause people can support.

NGOs

If your work is annadana, orphan care, education or heritage restoration, it can be listed as a cause people support with a named amount and a stated purpose.

Priests

Sevas booked online still have to be performed by someone. That is the archaka, and the platform is built so their part of it is respected.

Common questions

Do I have to be present at the temple?

No. The seva is performed by the priests at the partner institution on your behalf, in your name and gotra, and photographic proof is uploaded afterwards.

How do I know the seva was actually performed?

Partner institutions upload photographs against each completed seva, and every completed offering is listed on the public ledger with the institution named.

How are institutions verified?

Before anything is listed, the institution’s PAN is checked against MCA records and its bank account is validated by a penny-drop through our payment partner. A signed board resolution or power of attorney is also required.

What does SevaCart charge?

One platform fee on sevas, published in full on the pricing page and shown as its own line before you pay. Verified causes carry no platform fee today, and the payment-gateway charge is absorbed by SevaCart rather than added to your bill.

Can I get an 80G tax receipt?

For contributions to 80G-registered partner institutions, yes, and that receipt is issued by the institution directly. Sevas are ritual services rather than contributions, so they are not 80G eligible.

Can I cancel a seva?

Yes, within the cancellation window shown on the seva card and again at checkout. Windows are tiered by seva type and set out in full in the cancellation policy.
